The fuel cell was discovered in 1838 by German scientist Christian Freidrich Schonbein.Hydrogen can be used to run an internal combustion engine. watts the point of a fuel cell ??????NONE.This is typical of the car industry fuel cells are bullshit rubbish .there is plenty of polluted water to clean up instead of dumping it into rivers and oceans.Hydrogen is the answer to all energy needs .and a good way to clean up our filthy planet.Sunshine is free to make hydrogen,

@xuj22 When a regular car crashes badly, you get a big puddle of volatile gasoline sitting on the ground all around it waiting for a spark to ignite it. When a hydrogen car crashes badly, the hydrogen comes out as a cloud of ultra light gas that rapidly rises far above the ground and disperses, eventually into outer space. Spectacular whooshing fireball if it ignites immediately when released, but pretty benign compared to gasoline of not ignited within the first few seconds.

@Deurone i'm really not sure why this is getting negative comments .... it's hydrogen ... extremely explosive, it's an awesome point. even if a bottle has a very small leak, store it in your garage over night .... or if it builds up in the compartment of the car. Very clean but it's still very dangerous. and @ altern8energy ~ get a clue 600 miles that's nice ... hydrogen fuel supply is infinite supply and clean. 250 miles would get you plenty far.

They could put those no-flat tires on this car. Like those "honeycomb" tires but the honeycomb is inside so it doesn't look so funky. They can run over nails, glass, just about anything without going flat. You would only need a tow if you hit something major and completely shredded the tire. No comment on the exploding tanks up your ass!

2 things. what happens when u crash at high speed, will the bottles explode like the movies? wil the bottles crack open and shoot hydrogen into ur ass? second thing, what heppens when u get a flat tyre? the dude did say the engine is in the hub. does a flat tyre mean u gotta tow the car instead of changing a flat tyre urself? apart from those things, everything else is GREAT! Spacious. ZERO emmissions. CHEAP to run.

Practicality and profit will dicide if this tecnology lives to production stages or dies silently like Chrysler.

I for one would love to drive one of these vehicles. For a road worthy road test situation, I would love to put it to the test, if GM would be willing to give me or it a chance to prove it one way or the other.

As soon as there is a faster, cheaper and less power hungry method way of extracting hydrogen from salt water, petrol will become obsolete. I guess if they used renewable energy to power the hydrogen production plants we'll see a power revolution. Also for those who reckon that hydrogen cells are dangerous, have you heard about what cars run on and how a combustion engine works? I think that is slightly more volatile...
By: g0thicicecream. on 13 Jan 10, 16:30:56
they use salt water for making the hydrogen fuel cells, there's plenty of that on the planet
By: decibel333. on 11 Jan 10, 20:35:35
@benympls Only they are NOT combustion engines ... look up hydrogen fuel cell and you'll see that. They are creating electricity by recombining the hydrogen with oxygen through a membrane... it is essentially a chemical battery. The entrenched oil industry like Hydrogen because they could control the supply.
By: decibel333. on 11 Jan 10, 20:27:00
@brightingsky2009 Hydrogen is also not an energy source. However, I'd throw my bid in for Hydrogen from solar/geothermal/wind/tidal electricity if it could be generated locally (perhaps even at home!) rather than distributed widely... what a waste of energy that would be!
By: Deurone. on 09 Jan 10, 21:57:27
surely that's an incredibly dangerous car. In a crash situation, you're pretty much guaranteed to die because you're sitting on crap loads of compressed hydrogen which would just explode.
By: altern8energy. on 06 Jan 10, 22:23:04
250 miles per Hydrogen fill-up?? Ummm I get close to 600 miles on my 2009 VW Jetta Clean Diesel. Better figure out a way to carry a 10 gallon water tank and convert the water to hydrogen and oxygen fast enough to keep the HFC happy under load.

FRIG!!! WAKE UP PEOPLE!!! You think water is expensive now? Guess who is going to lay claim to water as soon as this launches like there is a demand on oil today? We don't live in Water World. It's a great idea but the consequences are astronomical.

They have the full electric car with 250+ mile range, They have a full Hydrogen Fuel Cell Car with 250+ range. SO WHAT is the problem? Lets DO IT. Make them. (Like RusticResonance said They do not know how to sell the supply of electric and hydrogen to the public to make profit.) The average person's home can be set up ez to be a station for refueling or recharging So the average person does not need second station owning a electric car, with 250+ or Hydrogen Fuel Cell Car with 250+ range.

Did he just say Hoping**** ?????????????
By: brightingsky2009. on 12 Dec 09, 11:39:36
@DINGLEtheBERRY well said bro, hydrogen is not the fuel for the future!
By: RusticResonance. on 11 Dec 09, 04:32:53
I don't think he mentions once . that the hydrogen comes from salt water, not a hard job do this your self. con artists, now they try 2 sell the hydrogen, this is the only reason in my opinion why its taking so long. they needed to find a way to sell us the fuel and make it a profitable business.

Well, yes, but I guess arson really doesn't count for what you're referring to :D Jokes aside, you're absolutely right. I'm not familiar with the numbers, but the safety has long been established.

What's really mind-blowing is that at the end of the 19th century, there were twice as many electric cars as gasoline-powered cars.
By: caseyhartman. on 03 Dec 09, 01:27:22
its funny because if you think about it they had electric cars in 1993 that could go fast and had a normal gas milage or electric milage but the thing is they lied all these years and said they didnt exsist and now all of a sudden the volt comes out ...........230.............come on fuck oil companies and the government

no i hydrogen bomb fusses a fission explostion to start a fussion chain reaction completly diffrent from a compressed gass tank failing
By: DanFrederiksen. on 21 Nov 09, 01:09:50
the whole skate board thing sounds good but I don't think it will ever be done that way. just indifferent GM PR stunts
By: DanFrederiksen. on 21 Nov 09, 01:04:17
how much does it cost and where can you buy them..
By: DanFrederiksen. on 21 Nov 09, 01:02:23
you throw a couple of shrimps on the barby :)
